Type 1 Diabetes Support Advocacy Program
Empowering youth to lead the fight against non-communicable diseases through education, peer support, and community action.
Program Overview
Type 1 Diabetes has been almost neglected due to the perception that fewer people are sick. However, the fatality rate is high, and living with it is a challenge for both those affected and their families. Mostly affecting children, it can severely impact growth and development if not prioritized in healthcare systems and public awareness.
Cameroon has about 15 government-designated centers of care, including two in the Northwest Region: the Regional Hospital in Bamenda and the Banso Baptist Hospital in Kumbo.
Our work addresses the diverse needs of people living with Type 1 Diabetes through advocacy, research, access, awareness, and engagement.
MAIN OBJECTIVES FOR THE PROGRAM
RADA seeks to improve lives by raising awareness, supporting sustainable livelihoods, and promoting health and wellbeing.
We recognize meaningful engagement as critical in delivering effective support to those with Type 1 Diabetes.
Why We Do This
Many children with Type 1 Diabetes outgrow the programs, while new cases emerge. Schools, parents, and churches often lack the knowledge to detect early signs and symptoms.
Rapid response and the right support are vital in managing and preventing this chronic condition.
Bridging the Awareness Divide
Schools, parents, and community leaders often lack the critical knowledge to identify early signs and symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes, leading to delayed response and support for new cases.
Evolving Needs, Lasting Support
As children with T1D mature and outgrow existing programs, a continuous cycle of new cases emerges, creating a constant demand for age-appropriate, sustainable educational and support systems.
Vital Rapid Action &
Care
Effective management and prevention of this chronic condition depend on swift detection paired with the right medical, educational, and community-based support from the onset.
