Program Overview

This project aims to reduce the burden of Onchocerciasis (river blindness) and other Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) through community education and evidence-based research, in line with global strategies for NTD control and elimination that emphasize health education, community engagement, and data-driven interventions (World Health Organization [WHO], 2021; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2023).

THREE MAIN OBJECTIVES FOR THE PROGRAM

  1. Increase community knowledge about Onchocerciasis (river blindness) and other Neglected Tropical Diseases through accessible, culturally appropriate health education.
  2. Support community engagement and participation by equipping local leaders and volunteers with the tools and knowledge needed to prevent and control NTDs.
  3. Use research and data to design, monitor, and improve effective, evidence-based interventions that align with global NTD control and elimination goals.

THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROGRAM

The purpose of this program is to reduce the burden of Onchocerciasis (river blindness) and other Neglected Tropical Diseases by empowering communities with knowledge, strengthening local participation in disease prevention, and using evidence-based research to guide effective and sustainable interventions in line with global health strategies.
