Global Week for Action on NCDs

What is the Global Week for Action on NCDs?

The Global Week for Action on Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) is an annual global campaign that mobilises communities, policymakers, civil society, and health advocates to take concrete steps toward reducing the burden of NCDs such as heart disease, diabetes, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases and mental health conditions. This movement brings together voices from around the world to demand bold leadership, urgent action and accountability in preventing and controlling NCDs.

Noncommunicable diseases are the leading cause of death and disability worldwide, responsible for most premature deaths and disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries.

Why This Matters to Our Communities

At RADA, we recognise that healthy communities are the foundation of sustainable development. NCDs threaten lives, disrupt families, drain local health resources and stall progress in education, employment and economic opportunities. In our region, where access to health care and prevention services is often limited, the impact of NCDs can be devastating without coordinated action.

Our Participation in the Global Week for Action

This year, RECDEV proudly joins the global movement for the Global Week for Action on NCDs. We are raising awareness, engaging youth and community leaders, and advocating for stronger local responses to prevent and manage NCDs.

Our activities during the Week include:

🔹 Community Awareness Campaigns

  • Public forums and radio discussions on NCD risks, prevention and early detection.
  • Education on healthy lifestyles — nutrition, physical activity, and reducing harmful substances like tobacco and alcohol.

🔹 Youth Engagement & Leadership

  • Mobilising youth through our Youth and NCDs: National Youth NCD Action Network to champion prevention within schools, families, and peer groups.

🔹 Policy Advocacy

  • Working with policymakers to prioritise NCD prevention and care in national health agendas.
  • Promoting stronger front-of-package warning labels on unhealthy foods — part of RECDEV’s ongoing advocacy for healthier food environments.

🔹 Support & Care Initiatives

  • Providing support and education for people living with diabetes, hypertension and breast cancer through our Home-Based Complementary Diabetes & Hypertension and Breast Cancer Programmes.

Together We Can Turn Words Into Action

The Global Week for Action is not just a moment it’s a movement. It calls on everyone to speak up for health equity and demand leadership that translates commitments into real change. No action is too small from sharing information on social media to engaging with leaders, every voice counts.

At RECDEV, we stand with communities to ensure that health for all becomes a reality — not just a promise.

Key Goals of the Campaign

✔ Elevate NCD prevention and control as a development priority
✔ Promote policies that support healthy living environments
✔ Mobilise investment and resources for community health action
✔ Amplify the voices of people living with NCDs
✔ Strengthen accountability and leadership at all levels
