Background

The Africa NCDs Network (ANN) exists to help improve the lives of People Living with NCDs with early diagnosis, better access to health services, improved availability of NCD medicines and commodities, affordability and universal access. It also seek to ensure participation of Civil Society Organizations in NCD related processes in Africa and beyond in a collaborative and coordinated fashion

Main duties and responsibilities:

Website

  • Draft, curate and publish content for the ANN website, including regular updates to our events calendar and news stories.
  • Edit and publish new content according to needs, and review existing content to ensure it is up to date and accurate.
  • Liaise with website hosting provider for maintenance and improvements as needed.

Social Media

  • Strengthen ANN social media presence and activity:  Interaction with members/supporters/followers, amplifying relevant content from the ANN network/members/partners, sharing key advocacy & campaign messages.
  • Develop and publish dynamic and enticing social media content.
  • Create timely resources for social media.
  • Using social media analytics tools, monitor, report and implement improvements in response to regular assessments of performance.

Campaigns & Events

  • Contribute to drafting communications and advocacy plans for events and campaigns, and support implementation
  • Produce advocacy and communication materials

Media relations

  • Working with relevant team members, draft media releases, statements and talking points for spokespeople.
  • Support implementation of media relations plans.

Publications

  • Provide editorial support for ANN publications such as the Annual Reports, policy briefs and statements.

Skills and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an area relevant to the job description e.g. communications, marketing, journalism, with an interest in health and development etc.
  • Experience working in a related field, NGO or membership organization.
  • Demonstrable skills in engaging networks through social media (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn etc.) and via virtual means
  • Writing, editing and proofreading skills, including the ability to synthesize complex material clearly, accurately and compellingly.
  • Fluent in English and French (written and spoken)
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of all relevant tools including website and social media analytics tools.
  • Team-player and collaborator, willingness to work outside of regular hours to achieve team objectives.
  • Ability to work sensitively in a multicultural setting and with people and organizations representing those living with NCDs.
